Salone del Mobile 2010, Milan – Infinitycandle

Every year the “Fuorisalone” -the event related to Milan’s Salone del Mobile– gives a great chance to take good pictures, by portraying creative objects of unconventional design, color and shapes. Artworks are already fine by themselves …so half of the photograper work is automatically done 🙂

Here’s the first of a series of articles about Fuorisalone …from a photographic point of view, of course.

The flame of a single candle infinitely mirrorred between two semi-reflecting mirrors: Infinitycandle.

The candle stands on a support between two circular semi-reflecting glasses, that bounce flame image in an infinite pattern, changing as you slightly change your point of view.

As simple as fascinating; when I get through the BrilliantAdventures stand at Superstudio Più on sunday morning,  all samples were already sold out.

Not an easy shot for a phototgrapher, due to reflection of the surrounding objects, that you don’t notice while you look, but image sensor reproduces.[ad#ad-articolo]

In this first shot I wanted to highlight object structure and working principle; this results in a more conventional image, but better describes the object. No photographic added value here, no need for creativity, but -if technically well done-, this is the kind of image one could chose to promote the product. This was my first impulsive shot and I didn’t take care of reflections: not good.

In this second shot I tried to get a more abstract image. This is probably a cleaner image, but the originality of the object is lost.

The image on top of this article is probably the better trade-off.
